Abstract
Ellipsoids formed from a merocyanine-based amphiphile can be disassembled by irradiation with visible light. The thermal recovery of the self-assembly is significantly slower than that of the dilute amphiphile. The delay between the switching and assembly processes can be tuned between minutes and hours by adding differently charged co-surfactants.
