Abstract

Herein, we report the synthesis, plus structural and spectroscopic characterization, of a plutonium(IV) complex with the polyoxometalate W5O186-. The complex was isolated as Cs8[Pu(W5O18)2]·CsCl·6.5H2O, with the tetravalent actinide ion sandwiched between two lacunary polyoxotungstate anions. It represents a rare case of a POM compound with plutonium and also the first Peacock-Weakley type complex of plutonium.
