Abstract
The rise of fungal infections has become a pressing global health concern, affecting millions and leading to significant mortality, particularly among immunocompromised individuals. While antifungal treatments have played a crucial role in managing these infections, the increasing prevalence of resistant strains necessitates continuous advancements in antifungal research. Notably, climate change has emerged as a contributing factor, influencing the geographic distribution, virulence, and seasonality of fungal pathogens, thereby exacerbating the global burden of fungal diseases. This article leverages data from the CAS Content Collection, the largest human-curated repository of published scientific research, to examine trends in antifungal drug development. By reviewing antifungal mechanisms, clinical applications, resistance challenges, and environmental factors such as climate change that drive fungal evolution, this paper aims to provide insights into the current antifungal research landscape, acting as a resource that might aid in the development of novel antifungal therapies. Through this comprehensive review, we seek to contribute to ongoing efforts in combating fungal infections and improving patient outcomes globally.
