Abstract

The change in the strain energy when cyclizing polyarylated carbon nanorings to the corresponding carbon nanobelts is im-portant for predicting the feasibility of such a transformation. The methods used to estimate the strain energy of carbon nanorings and carbon nanobelts are updated in this study. According to the updated method, a decrease in strain energy during the cyclization of polyarylated carbon nanorings into carbon nanobelts was found in all reported successful cases.
