Abstract

This report presents the results of a workshop on the development and characterization of 1 a composite material based on epoxy resin, reinforced with glass fibers. It promotes the definition 2 and importance of composite materials, underscoring especially the fiberglass composites, which 3 have a great strength-to-weight ratio and quite extensive applications in terms of usage in many 4 industries, such as aerospace, automotive, and construction. The Materials and Methods section 5 provides fabrication details, including preparation of mixtures of epoxy and hardener and mechanical 6 testing performed for assessing tensile and bending properties. From the results, it was shown 7 that orientation and number of plies played a critical role in the mechanical performance of the 8 composites, where the optimized configurations gave better strength and stiffness. It follows from 9 the study that understanding the fabrication processes and mechanical behaviors of these composites 10 is fundamentally significant for advancing their applications in demanding environments. 11 Keywords: Composite Material, Fiberglass Composites, Epoxy Resin, Mechanical Testing, TensileTest, 12 Bending Test, Glass Fibers Reinforcement, Young’s Modulus, Composite Fabrication,Materials Process 13 Engineering
