Abstract

A high-performance, recyclable, environment-friendly organic Spinacia oleracea-CdS nano-hybrid is synthesized, characterized, and subjected to full-band solar irradiation in the presence of water to produce ~ 30 mmol g-1 h-1 hydrogen (~6 times compared to that through water splitting with pristine CdS); an AQE of ~14.3% is achieved using 420 nm of visible light. The Chlorophyll-CdS nanohybrid, exhibiting intermediate photocatalytic activity of ~8 mmol g-1 h-1, establishes the predominant role of photoreforming and bioconversion of Spinacia oleracea in improved hydrogen generation.
