Expanding the Chemical Space of Biocompatible Fluorophores: Nanohoops in Cells

Abstract

The synthesis of the first aqueous-soluble version of the carbon nanohoop scaffold is reported and its imaging capabilities in live cells are demonstrated. This work establishes the nanohoops as a promising class of unexplored fluorophores for biological use.
